Whether you're an amateur snowboarder or an expert skier, a tobogganing pro or a master of alpine cooking, the mountains are calling to you! When you find yourself craving winter sports or a holiday in the mountains, whether it's with friends or family, there's nothing quite like heading to the peaks of the French and Swiss Alps by train.

French Alps

Ski in the heart of the French Alps

An iconic mountain range for skiing, the Alps include the highest summit in Europe, Mont Blanc, as well as numerous ski resorts. The French Alps provide all the diversity that a mountain range has to offer: the alpine ski sites, associated facilities, kilometres of Nordic trails and marked routes will delight those who love mountains and snow.

Among the best-known and most reputable ski resorts, we can mention, as examples, Val Thorens - chosen as the "Best Ski Resort In The World" for the 3rd time, Courchevel, Les Ménuires, Paradiski, La Rosière or Tignes. The good news? These resorts can be reached by train!

Switzerland abounds with some 150 ski resorts including Diablerets, Zermatt, La Tzoumaz, Saas Fee, Gstaad, Klosters and St. Moritz, to name some of the best known ones. In Switzerland you will find delightful mountain villages, fabulous panoramic views and friendly and welcoming people. An ideal location for fans of snowboarding, alpine skiing or snowshoeing: Switzerland offers hundreds of kilometres of ski pistes and other routes, among snowy forests and landscapes.

Not to be missed: the trip up to the Jungfraujoch, the crowning glory of any stay in Switzerland. The Jungfraubahn will take you to the highest station in Europe, at an altitude of 3454 metres.

It's also worth making a detour to Austria's cities as part of your winter break, as they are at their most romantic at this time of year: Vienna and Salzburg of course, but also medieval Innsbruck, which also boasts nine ski resorts in the surrounding area and thus offers a great mix of cultural and sporting activities.
