5 destinations with guaranteed sunny weatherA guaranteed holiday in the sun

Finding the best destination for your summer holiday in the sun can be tricky, especially if you’re going as early as May-June or in late summer. If it’s sun you’re after, there are plenty of European destinations that can offer you exactly that, almost all year round.

From France, to Italy, Portugal and Croatia: here are 5 destinations where it’s 25°C or over from May to October… Lots of sun and warm weather guaranteed!

Montpellier

1. Montpellier, France

Why go there?

Montpellier’s one of France’s most seductive cities, yet one of the most underrated ones. This easy-going city in Southern France has a lot going for it: an attractive old town with sandstone buildings, narrow alleyways and numerous cosy corner cafés, elegant esplanades lined with trees, sun-drenched squares, fine-dining restaurants as well as authentic small bars, a setting nearby the sea and beaches… Surely you can see the allure.

How to get there?

TGV® offers direct trains to Montpellier departing from Brussels, Lille and Paris.

Rome

2. Rome, Italy

Why go there?

Not sure who’d have to ask this question, but we’ll spell it out for you anyway ;-) Spectacular Renaissance and Baroque fountains, architecture and monuments, amazing food and wines, ancient Roman ruins including the Roman Forum and of course the impressive Colosseum, topped with some shopping and must-visit art museums: Rome is a true bucket list destination.

How to get there?

From Paris, TGV® France-Italy high-speed trains will take you to Milan, from where you can board a domestic Italian (high-speed) train to Rome.

Split

3. Split, Croatia

Why go there?

Apart from its hot climate, there are a number of reasons why you should visit Split. The town on the Dalmatian Coast has a listed Old town that includes Diocletian’s Palace, an ancient Roman palace built in the 4th century AD. If history’s not your thing, hit one of the popular beaches in the area or get amazing views of Split from Marjan Hill. And as a bonus, Split is the ideal starting point to go island hopping to Hvar, Vis, Brac, etc.

How to get there?

You can travel to or in Croatia with an Interrail (Global or One Country) Pass.

Aix-en-Provence

4. Aix-en-Provence, France

Why go there?

Also dubbed « the city of a thousand fountains », the capital of Provence is packed with artisanal shops, sun-drenched terraces, fashion boutiques, food markets, lively squares and Baroque architecture. Just outside of Aix, you’ll find the mountains and countryside (those splendid lavender fields included) that so inspired Paul Cézanne, perhaps the city’s most famous inhabitant.

How to get there?

Travel straight to Aix-en-Provence by TGV® from Brussels, Paris, Lille and (in Summer) by Thalys Sun from Amsterdam.

Porto

5. Porto, Portugal

Why go there?

Radiating authentic Portuguese charm, Porto is the rise. The city features a mix of medieval and modern architecture and a historic centre that is picture-perfect and definitely worth a spot on your Instagram account. “Ribeira”, as Porto’s oldest neighbourhood is called, is an ensemble of medieval alleyways leading down to a riverside promenade lined with colourful houses and sun-drenched terraces. What’s not to like?

How to get there?

Interrail offers rail passes to and in Portugal – create your own itinerary.
